DARPA Launches Project Beta 2 to Advance Future Warfighter Communication and Predictive Decision Systems

Darpa Advanced Research Projects Agency

Orem, Utah — October 31, 2025 — The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has initiated Project Beta 2 – Future Warfighter Communication and Predictive Decision Systems, an advanced research effort designed to push the boundaries of neuro-behavioral modeling and quantum-assisted human–machine communication.

The two-year, $1.55 million program is being executed by Vavoom Research Labs LLC, a division of Battiloro Brands LLC (Orem, Utah), under the direction of Principal Investigator Luke Battiloro.  Academic collaborators include the University of Utah, University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Brazil.

Project Beta 2 seeks to develop next-generation frameworks for warfighter decision support by integrating neuroscience, behavioral prediction, and quantum-scale information processing.  By mapping reward-pathway activation within the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and prefrontal cortex, researchers aim to anticipate decision patterns in high-stress combat or autonomous-control environments.  The research will also explore quantum-informed communication protocols to enhance the speed, accuracy, and security of future defense networks.

“Our mission is to bridge human cognition and machine precision,” said Luke Battiloro, Principal Investigator.  “Through this DARPA partnership, we’re advancing technologies that can help allied forces make faster, safer, and more ethical decisions on the battlefield.”

The initiative operates under DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office (BTO) and supports the agency’s broader mandate to strengthen U.S. strategic advantage through neuroscience-driven innovation.  Results from Beta 2 are expected to inform next-generation autonomous systems, neural interface design, and quantum communication architectures.
